Mothers' Day is May 10, a day when people honor their mothers for all they've done for them. Some mothers that might be overlooked in the rush to the store to buy a card or flowers are the ones in the developing world who struggle daily to provide their families with food and shelter.
Finding clean water is a big problem for many millions of them. Over a billion people don't have access to clean water and it's usually the women who have to walk miles over dangerous terrain to get it. In fact, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), the average distance that women in Africa and Asia walk to collect water is 4 miles, and the weight of water they carry on their heads is the equivalent of your airport luggage allowance (45lbs).
So, this Mother's Day let's all spare a thought for not only for our own mothers, but for the mothers everywhere who are trying to take care of their families.
